Dr. Vejune Zemaityte was a Senior Research Fellow in Cultural Data Analytics at the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (BFM) in Tallinn University, Estonia working as part of the CUDAN Open Lab from Fall 2020 to Spring 2023. Vejune uses data analysis and visualisation techniques to study global cultural and creative industries, focusing on cinema and gender. She is interested in the movement of cultural products through time and space. During her doctoral study at Deakin University in Australia performed as part of the international cross-university multidisciplinary Kinomatics Research Group Vejune analysed global film distribution trends using big data on theatrical screenings. In the postdoctoral phase at the CUDAN Open Lab, she continues with interdisciplinary, data-driven, and industry-facing work which focuses on content, origin, and gender diversity in global cinema. Vejune is currently a co-PI in a project “Gendered Analysis of the Luxembourgish Film Industry Network” performed in collaboration with the industry partner Fraen Am Bild – Women In Motion and a co-investigator in a project “Workforce Development and Diversity in Australian Cinematography” undertaken with the Australian Cinematographers Society. The two projects deal with gender inequality in film production sectors across different national industries using Social Network Analysis. Vejune is also a co-investigator in the project “The Public Value Chains of Cultural Open Data Solutions” performed in collaboration between Tallinn University and the Tallinn University of Technology, a research intervention into how Web 3.0 technologies could change how value is created and perceived in media and cultural industries.
In spring 2023, Vejune Zemaityte graduated from the position of CUDAN Senior Fellow to join the Public Value and Crescine projects in BFM. She remains affiliated with the CUDAN Open Lab.
